the muse and bad timing

sometimes i get inspired to write about all sorts of topics

recently i remember writing in my head about

puppy mills

politics

changing the world

women's history month

keeping promises

chemotherapy

this is just to name a few - but unfortunately my inspiration has come mostly when i was driving.  by the time i was in front of the computer i could not think of a thing to write

personally there is not much to write.  it is hard to write about everything being well nice

kids are doing great

boomer is awesome

bonnie still does not like boomer

picasso has taught boomer to godzilla wrestle

i will try and grab some pictures this weekend

Moments in parenting that make it so worthwhile . . .

A few weeks ago I noticed that my smart kids were not doing well at homework and quizzes/tests that involved pure memorization.

To freshen things up a bit and just to take inventory I asked that they do the homework with me after work instead of after school.  I thought maybe changing things up and seeing what they were doing would help get through the long boring days of winter where the teachers are cranky and the work seems endless.

The grades have been much improved but the true reward came tonight.  Patrick (who has never been great with homework or studying) came BOUNCING into the car and bubbled "We get to study together tonight" - I am sitting there thinking ummmm who in the world is this alien and where is my son?  So I cautiously say "Is that a good thing" and he shoots back "Oh yes it is much better to study with you than to study alone and besides I tend to get easily distracted and you keep me on track" - ohhhhh puddle puddle puddle puddle  WOW yeah that meant so much to me as a parent.  So we studied tonight (Social studies and physical science quizzes and classical studies and math tests) and he stayed on target and was positive and we had a great time.  He loves the company and the attention.  Catherine is very stubborn and independent and is taking great pleasure in showing me that she can do the work on her own thank you very much and here is the proof lol.

Two very different kids.  Two very special kids.  I am very blessed that I got a second opportunity to be a Mom to them and I think I am doing it right this time.  I have a rich life filled with friends and stuff and hobbies but right now they are the biggest priority in my world.  And when I get comments like I heard tonight from Patrick - ummmm yeah it is so worth it.
