Ick

My day started with cleaning up after Catherine threw up all over her bed at 3am (she is feeling much better - no fever and I just cleaned her up and tucked her in my bed) and ended with killing two black widow spiders (I thought I was being silly until I googled them and yep that is really what they were) and dumping half a bottle of tilex on me.

I think bed is the safest place for me.

The Simple Life

Paris Hilton would hate my world LOL

Nothing exciting to post - been taking care of the kids and the house and the yard - trying to catch up with my friends since I have been ignoring emails for the past couple of months.

Laundry and mowing were my big accomplishments today.  Now I am unwinding with a glass of water and some soft music before I crash.

It is a simple life, no drama no excitement and what a relief that is.

A decade of a wonderful daughter

Cat officially turned 10 yesterday.  She says it was her best birthday ever and I think she had a wonderful day.  Ken and I split the time and I got her until 3p and then he got her until this morning so it worked out great for her where there was no stress - just lots of fun and love with her parents.  Gifts this year were everything from Littlest Pet shop to stuff from Claire's and GC to Limited too, DS games, razor scooter and pop CD's - definitely a tween now LOL

Here are some pictures from yesterday

We celebrated Daddy's birthday today and he seemed to enjoy his celebration and gifts too.  So  lots of cake and champagne here - but I think we are skipping a cookout on Monday so I can settle down a bit.

Time to stop and smell the roses

OK the data center move is over and I am taking some time to try and get a normal balance in my life.  It went very well and I am so glad but I do not want to do that again for a very long time.

My housework and yardwork are so behind but I need to balance out life again so I am trying to just have it be better than it was the day before as my goal.  If I keep doing that then I will eventually get caught back up.

Did take a few minutes out of today to snap some roses blooming in my front bed.  Not much yet but it is a start . . .

Even the Energizer Bunny needs to recharge

Sorry for the hiatus - but things have been so insane.

After I chaperoned Catherine's field trip, I had to get ready for three things

Friday was Catherine's birthday party for her friends.  The party was simply wonderful.  The girls had a great time, there were two friends from scouts, one bff that lives about 45 minutes away, one friend from ballet and four school friends.  They blended together, no fights, only hours and hours of creative fun.  I made them go to bed around 2:30am (when I found them eating in my bed EEEEK) and then made a wonderful breakfast the next morning.  5 of the 8 guests spent the night and they even got along in the morning all sleep deprived.

Saturday we celebrated Mother's Day and my mother and I both had a wonderful time - lovely gifts, take out Chinese to eat and some bonding time.  We celebrated on Saturday because . . .

Sunday was the first half of moving our data center.  We have been planning it intensely for months and months, and this was the development and staging systems.  It was a rough journey with an enormous amount of "lessons learned" but it ended on schedule.  I worked from 11:30am - 4:15am and then was back working again at 9:00am after a 3 hour nap.  I would have loved some time to recover but we are moving production tomorrow so we all worked our behinds off again this week to get ready for tomorrow.  It is going to be bigger but hopefully not as painful as last week.  So this weekend I was prepared to run errands and clean and mow and really get caught  up before Sunday.

Baloney.

I don't remember ever being this exhausted before in my life.  Every time I sat down for a few minutes I fell asleep.  I guess even the Energizer Bunny needs fresh batteries sometimes.  I did get the errands done and we have two family birthdays this weekend (Catherine and Daddy) and the presents are bought for those.  I got some of the picking up done but not nearly everything I need to do and I said no way to the mowing.  My yard can wait a few more days and I will get it later this week.

I guess there is no *life police* that can ticket me for being behind.  It is teaching me to prioritize and not to sweat the small stuff.  It will get done.

Zoo Field Trip

Took off of work today to go on Catherine's field trip to the zoo - had an absolute blast - left the school around 9am and did not return until 3pm - the kids were so fun and sweet.

I love the zoo, we are members and go there tons - never ever get bored with it.

Took tons of pictures, mostly of the 4th grade animals but I will not post pictures of other ppls children soooooooo

here are some of my faves of Cath and then the zoo animals

My favorite room

My favorite room in my house?  My screened porch definitely wins that prize. At night I go out there when the kids are asleep and light some candles and listen to the crickets.

Up until today it had no furniture - it does not have much but at least a couple of rocking chairs and a table will make it more comfy!

Catherine loves it too!

Worked very hard this weekend - got the last boxes from the move unpacked and sorted, cleaned out my paperwork, cleaned both garages, mowed the grass, cleaned the porch.

Hopefully by Friday's party everything will be lovely!

1 almost tween + 1 almost teen equals

1 almost tween + 1 almost teen equals . . .

major brattitude

kept my cool - made some space - explained about what is respectful and what is not.  Told the little one that "talk and ask"  always gets you a better response than "whine and complain"

Got a final sullen response of "Can we go now?"  Explained nicely that there were nicer ways to say that.

Then went and hid in the jacuzzi

Now I am hiding on the computer

Tomorrow is another day and no one ever said that normal was always fun.

Getting things back under control

I worked 50 hours between Friday night at 6pm and 11pm Sunday.

I could not take Monday off but decided to take today off and catch up.  However it is month end so last night I had to login and finish entering my time for the month.  That is when I realized that I had let work get waaaaay out of control.  I worked 317.75 hours last month.  That is a problem and it is my problem.  I am still a bit to tired to understand why I did it, but I need to put a stop to that.

So today I took off and spent lots of time trying to get some of the most critical items under control.  I got Patrick's forms for Texas A&M filled out and tomorrow we go to the doctor and he will get his medical release form and have an annual checkup.  I did Cat's birthday party invites, they turned out super cute . . .

I ordered party supplies, cleaned out the Fridge, had to wash all of my bed linens due to a 3am hairball (thanks Bonnie LOL), fixed the height of Patrick's bike seat and honestly could use to take many more days off, but things are much better and much more under control.

The icing on the cake?  My builder came and fixed my porch door today - I have several candles lit out there and I am getting ready to turn on some soft music and take a glass of wine outside and enjoy the evening.
